In the year 2011, Rene ‘Tatay Eti’ Vendiola was awarded the General Pantaleon Villegas Award as “Outstanding Baconganon” for environmental conservation. In 2012 ‘Tatay Eti’ received the Ramon Aboitiz Foindation Inc. (RAFI) Triennial Award on Exemplary Individual for environment conservation.

Last June 27-28, around 15 participants from all sectors gathered together for a chance to upgrade their individual skill. Though each participant had already finished the Basics of Mountaineering provided either by Mountaineering Federation of the Philippines or some other clubs who also taught the basics of back packing and trail etiquette. Get ready to paddle, climb, run, bike, swim, rappel, navigate, and test your discipline and skills as the multi-day, multi-discipline adventure race weaves itself all over Cebu Province from the 21st until the 25th of November 2012.
This year's edition of Carrera Habagat, the country's toughest outdoor adventure race, will be staged in Cebu Province covering five cities on November 21-15. It is one of the major activities in line with Habagat's 25th year anniversary.
The Carrera Habagat adventure race returns to Cebu this Nov. 21 to 25 after a three-year absence.
THIRTY teams are expected to put their navigation skills and endurance to the test as the Carrera Habagat returns to Cebu on Nov. 21-25.

Expecting snowfall and temperatures below 10° Celsius – ushering in the winter season – the team plans to start the journey on 11 September, hit the summit, and be back at the base camp near Stok La by 21 September 2011.
The five-man team biked for about 100 kilometers through four high-altitude passes: Rohtang La (3978 m), Bara-lacha La (4892 m), Lachulung La (5059 m), and Tanglang La (5359 m). After a two-day stopover in Leh, they crossed Khardung La – the world’s highest motorable pass at 5602 m.

While all the participants agreed that the race was grueling -- with two teams failing to finish -- HOE President Randy Su said that this was just a brief taste of things to come for the next Carrera Habagat.
Fresh from the 8th Visayas Mountain Festival, delegates from Habagat Outdoor Equipment joined the 33rd Mountaineering Federation of the Philippines, Inc. Annual Congress which was held in Guintubdan, La Carlota City, Negros Occidental from 28 to 30 April 2011.

The 8th Visayas Mountain Festival was held from 31 March until 03 April 2011 at CREMDEC, Bgy. Tap-Tap, Cebu City.
Organized by the University of San Carlos Mountaineers (USCM) with the help of Cebu Outdoor Adventure Team (COAT), Cebu Mountaineering Society (CeMS), Mountaineering Federation of the Philippines, Inc (MFPI), and CAMP Cebu, the event was attended by 70 participants from mountaineering and outdoor clubs from various parts of the Visayas, as well as freelance outdoor enthusiasts from Samar, Cotabato, Davao, and Pangasinan.
"The waves were still somewhat calm, and paddling was quite easy as we were going downwind. We were instructed to stay within a few kilometers from the shore but, at some points, the waves and our inexperience took us a bit farther out."
